I woke up in the middle of the trashed flat with no one to keep me company except for the broken shards of the table. Balor was already up, speaking quietly into his phone. Groaning, I sat up and shielded my eyes against a too-bright sun. How long had we been passed out from our...well, let’s just call them antics?

We shouldn’t have been sleeping. Not with Moira and Kyle out there, taken, abducted, who knew what. Heart hammering, I blinked my eyes and tried to rid my brain of the overwhelming fog of our mating bond. Plus, that dream. I shook my head. Really didn’t have the time to think about that right now.

“What time is it?” I asked him.

He frowned and slid the phone into his pocket. “It’s late, but you don’t need to get up.”

Memories of the night before flooded into my mind. The sorcerer club. The vanishing Jake. The human cops. And, worst of all, the disappearance of Moira and Kyle.

Quickly, I scrambled to my feet and brushed my fuzzy hair from my eyes. “Moira and Kyle aren’t going to save themselves.”

Balor pursed his lips and twisted away. A strange unease settled over me. There was something he wasn’t telling me. Something he knew I wouldn’t like. For the love of the seven, I wished I could read his damn mind.

“Tell me what’s going on. Better to rip off the bandaid and get it over with.”

He turned back to me, sighed. “Plaster.”

I furrowed my brows. “Excuse me?”

“We call them plasters here.”

“You’re seriously not lecturing me on cultural differences in terminology to avoid sharing information with me, are you?”

He sighed and dragged a hand down his face, fingers snagging on his black eye patch. “I’m meeting Jake in half an hour. He found the appropriate spell. We’re going to try it on Maeve.”

My heart tripped. “You can’t be serious. We don’t have time to go practice spells right now. We need to be searching for our friends.”

“Sluagh first,” he said in a firm, unyielding voice. “Then, we will find the others.”

I shook my head and backed away. “I can’t believe you’re saying that. We have no idea what happened to them. They could be in chains. They might be tortured. Or even worse than that.”

“Moira is one of the strongest and most capable fae I’ve ever met.” He shook his head and strode closer to me. “Listen, Clark. I want to go for them just as much as you do. But you saw Maeve. She is already decomposing. If we don’t undo the curse now, there will be no way to save her. And we need her to take back the Court.”

“Moira is the Court. Kyle is the Court. They need us.”

His eyes fluttered shut. “And so do the rest of my fae. Hundreds of them. They need me to do whatever it takes to make this right.”

I shook my head, mouth falling open when he sheathed his sword and strode toward the door. When he reached it, he paused, fingers thrumming against the doorframe.
