5.4.1.2 QEERI

QEERI leads the national research in energy and water sector in Qatar (QEERI 2017a). The institute plays a vital role in developing IUGPs because of its research alignment with the industrial and governmental goals. Equipped with 14 labs, solar monitoring, and air quality monitoring station, QEERI provides state of the art facilities to the researchers with an aim to enhance sustainability and innovation in the country. On the domestic level, QEERI collaborates with private businesses (such as Qatar Solar Technologies and Green Gulf), government organizations (such as Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation and Qatar Water and Electricity Company), and ministries and agencies (including Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Development, Planning and Statistics, and Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy) (QEERI 2017b). At the same time, QEERI join hands with national and international universities, including Texas A&M University at Qatar , QU , Drexel University-US, and Hanyang University-South Korea. QEERI’s international partners include Swiss Supercomputing Center, Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research-Germany, and National Institute of Materials Science-Japan. Projects in QEERI are considered eligible for getting funded by the Qatar National Research Fund . In addition, the institute has its own Sponsored Research Office which oversees Sponsorships and Awards of the research projects. In the fiscal year 2014–2015, researchers and scientists at QEERI published 133 peer reviewed journal articles and 77 conference papers and presentations, and submitted 34 invention disclosures (QF 2015).
