CHAPTER SIX

The bright blue morning sun broke through the windows of the Fae bedroom, and Holly groaned when it woke her. She rolled over, and when her eyes fluttered open, she saw a room that she did not recognize. With a gasp, Holly sat straight up, her heart beating wildly, as though it was going to come crashing out of her chest.

And then the day before came rushing back into the forefront of her memory. Falling through the circlet into the Fae world, being stuck there, almost being caught on the wrong end of a crossbow...

But then there was the marriage. The man. The bed...

Holly looked over and saw Theodas, still asleep and still. His chest rose and fell with soft breaths, a slight snore coming from deep in his throat. He looked so handsome laying on the bed, naked except for the blanket that laid lazily over his form.

The longer Holly looked at him, the more she burned with the desire to have him once more. She could not stop thinking of how his body felt next to hers, how his body felt inside of hers. For a moment, she considered crawling to him and waking him with kisses and wandering hands...

But the thoughts startled her. Why didn’t she want to leave? She could easily escape now, running off into the Fae woods to hide until the moon was full, and the portal opened. What was stopping her?

Something was keeping her in that bed, next to that man that she had spent a passionate night with.

Slowly, Theodas rolled over, and when his eyes met hers, his gaze seemed to soften. Something inside of Holly melted when his silvery eyes met hers, and she could not stop the grin that formed on her face.

“Good morning,” she whispered.

The Fae hunter stretched and his gaze moved to the window. “Ahh, yes,” he said, slowly rising, “The morning has come.”

Theodas rose and began to dress, and Holly fought the urge to call him back to bed. She wanted more of him, wanted to experience his body against hers once more, but she stopped herself.

Don’t get attached, she told herself, I’m going home soon and I will leave him behind.

“Are you hungry?” Theodas asked, turning to look at the naked human, still laying in his bed. Holly saw his cheeks darken as his gaze drifted over her, and she wished he would take the hint.

“I could eat,” she replied, a sly grin on her face.

The hunter only nodded. “Rest, then,” he said, “I will bring home some sustenance.”

Theodas left, slipping out the front door with barely a sound, and Holly laid herself back, looking out the window into the bright blue morning. She could have laid there for hours, her eyes wandering over the beautiful forest that the Fae called home. It was peaceful and quiet, and Holly had not realized that tranquility had settled into her soul.

And there was a part of her that dreaded leaving this place.

But leaving was a long way away, and Holly intended on living in the moment.
