LEVI

Levi stood by his car in the parking lot of the church, looking at his phone. He played with the strings on his hoodie as he checked the time yet again. Seven-fifteen. He hoped everything was okay and that Everest and the kids were still coming. Not that it would be the end of the world if they didn’t. He didn’t live that far away. He could always go back to his apartment, slip into some pjs and binge watch Netflix for the evening, get his clothes back from Everest another time.

Oh, who the hell was he kidding? He didn’t want to spend his evening alone again. Not when he could be with that magnetic man and his adorable children.

Everest North was making him feel things he hadn’t felt in a long time. Years. The man was gorgeous, charming, albeit a little shy, and sexy as hell. His smile was breathtaking, his laughter infectious, his courage and resilience so incredibly admirable. And the fact that he was trying so hard to do everything he could in such difficult circumstances, and be there for his kids, that was maybe the sexiest thing of all.

Honestly, Levi had been somewhat surprised when Everest had agreed to come tonight, after such a long day at work, but he wasn’t going to fight him on it. Not when he’d been aching to see him ever since he’d left his house the night before, and his lame excuse for his trip to the garage wasn’t nearly enough time to actually, truly be with the man.

But where were they?

His phone vibrated in his hand, startling him and he looked down to see a text from Everest, holding his breath for a split second, afraid the man might be canceling on him.

Everest: Hey, sorry, we’re running late. It was an adventure getting the kids out of the house, but we’re on our way. Be there in a few minutes.

Levi sighed in relief and replied. See you soon 🙂

Everest’s minivan pulled into the parking lot a short while later and parked across from Levi’s and just a few spots down. Everest got out first and waved at him, but Levi could tell he looked stressed and worn out, and he bit his lip. He could hear the twins inside arguing about something.

“Guys, we’ll try to do everything, but we’ll have to take turns, okay?” Everest said, his voice sounding calm but desperate. “If there’s too much fighting and whining we’ll have to go home and go to bed. We’re not staying if you don’t behave.”

Shortly after that, all three kids came scrambling out of the car and squealed with delight when they saw Levi, waving their arms in the air frantically and jumping up and down.

The twins tried to take off running but Everest grabbed their shoulders and held them back. “Look for cars first, you two,” he said, a mixture of exasperation and fear in his deep voice. “You know that. This is a parking lot. I don’t want you getting hurt.
