CHAPTER THIRTEEN

The time-out I took with Tundra was a much-needed retreat from our busy lives. True, I may have downplayed the importance of actively working on tracking our goblin fugitive, but I don't care.

I can quickly make up for the delay after we get ourselves cleaned up and get our heads back in the game.

Or I could have if Jaxx and Hawk weren't already out there taking care of it for us.

"Huh, you're back," I say, taking extra time to adjust my gun holster so I don't have to meet their teasing gazes. "I guess we didn't hear you come in."

"How could you over the throaty throes of orgasm?" Hawk is obviously amused. He takes a long draw on one of his special blend cigarettes and then opens the credenza on the sidewall. When he straightens, he tosses me a package of antiseptic wipes. "That's my new furniture. Go apologize to it."

I catch the package and toss it to Tundra, who's just coming out of the meeting room. "We've been caught in the act, T. Our penance is clean and sanitize duty."

Tundra looks mortified but opts to take the out and go clean the table instead of commenting.

"Be nice." I peg both of them with a look when it's just us. I reach for Hawk's cigarette, and he gives it up. "If you start making things uncomfortable, I’ll shoot you. And might I remind you both of many moments when I stumbled in on the two of you as well as each of you with the others."

Jaxx gives me a sunny Texas cowboy smile and laughs. "S'all good, my man. We're just glad to see your quint is gelling."

Hawk nods. "See it. Hear it. Smell it."

I leave the magical cigarette between my lips and reach for the grip of my gun. I flick the strap snap free and make like I’m about to draw my weapon. "Don't say I didn't warn you."

They both bust-up.

Hawk shakes his head and pulls out another hand-rolled bundle of bliss. "I'm just saying the two of you have come a long way from you trying to shoot him out of the air while he tried to claw you to ribbons."

It's funny what our selective memory chooses to release. I haven’t thought about our first encounter in ages. "Well, thankfully he's bulletproof and I didn't kill him. It would've been a loss. He's a fantastic fuck."

Tundra is on his way out when I voice that opinion and turns around and leaves again.

I laugh and take another pull. "No need to hide, T. This is us. There's no use trying to be anything we're not. And it's true. You are a fantastic fuck."

Tundra comes out to the security office, his face a lovely shade of pink.

Jaxx eyes him up and down and lets off a long purr. "It's the wings that get me. Those are hella sexy."

"Preach," I say, holding up my knuckles for a bump.

Tundra runs his long fingers through his ebony hair and ignores us both, striding over to look at the console screen Hawk's working on.
