MARC AND LAURA WALKED up the stairs of the bed and breakfast, Laura carrying a nearly full bottle of wine and two stemmed wine glasses.
Sheâd cornered a male server in the supply closet, giving him a quick blow job and liberating the bottle of wine. The glasses she grabbed off the bar.
âPlanning to meet someone tonight? There might be a waiter still cleaning up at the party,â Marc said, not unkindly.
âNo, silly, Iâm inviting myself into your room for a nightcap.â
âNo, Laura. Iâve had enough to drink tonight and so have you.â
âKeeping track of how much I drink? How very sweet of you.â
Marc opened the door to his room and Laura pushed her way in. âCome on. Just one drink. I donât want to finish the bottle alone. Then Iâll leave. I promise. And you shall remain unsullied and chaste.â
âYou promise?â he asked, raising an eyebrow. He threw his key card on the table by the TV.
âScoutâs honor,â Laura said, raising two fingers.
âThatâs three fingers for Scoutâs honor, Laura.â
âIt is? How do you know? Were you the good little Boy Scout?â
âI was.â
âI didnât know that about you, but I can see it.â Laura placed the wine glasses on the small table in the corner of the bedroom and poured the rich Cabernet sheâd nabbed from the server. She still saw the look of sweaty bliss on his face after the blow job. The catering staff wasnât getting this bottle for their clean up meal tonight.
An hour and a half later, the bottle was empty.
âLaura, you said youâd leave without a fuss,â Marc said, standing up.
âI donât think I said Iâd go without a fuss, but I will go,â she said. She stood up and leaned into Marc and kissed him. He didnât intend to, but he ended up kissing her back. Then he pulled away.
âLaura, you can see yourself out,â he said, heading to the bathroom.
As Marcâs back was to her, she swiped the key card to his room. âIâll leave, Marc,â she said under her breath. âBut Iâll be back.â
Marc splashed cold water on his face and looked in the mirror. He shook his head and tried not to think about Lauraâs kiss. He felt guilty. He needed to get Laura out of his mind and out of his life forever.
He stripped down to his boxers and got into bed. He opened the window near the bed and felt a cool breeze. The breeze felt good. After all the wine heâd had that evening, he fell asleep quickly and deeply.
Laura sat in her darkened bedroom wearing her sheer black silk lingerie. She was waiting until she could be sure Marc would be asleep. His key card felt hot in her hand.
Laura looked down at her phone. The time read 2 a.m. She quietly went to her door and slipped out of her bedroom, heading to his room.
She paused to listen at the door and heard nothing. She didnât want to be caught by anyone in the hallway, or by him when she opened his door.
