I snuck my real purchase back to our suite under a packet of hair ties and two bottles of sunscreen. Mona didn’t see it when we checked out together. The plastic bag was opaque enough to conceal its contents. For whatever reason, Noah looked too pleased with himself to notice, or maybe Will’s hustling us along kept him from stopping and seeing the obvious.

I had never been an actress. My poker face was nonexistent. As a child, Mom always said I’d been born without guile, but now, I needed to rustle up some to keep the smile on my face. The evening activities only served as a distraction for a short while. We still needed to go to bed, even while the knowledge of a pregnancy test haunted me from the depths of my suitcase.

When my eyes opened the next morning, I sensed it. It seemed to have a beacon that glared only for me. Noah never saw it. His smile was too self-satisfied, and his hands reached for me too easily under the covers.

You need to take me, the test called as Noah pulled me closer. You need to know.

“Good morning,” he greeted me in a raspy baritone. “Sleep well?”

“Yeah,” I lied. “You?”

“Good enough, but waking up to you is better.”

Wrapped up in his arms, he gained the weight of my body. It pressed against him as his lips found mine. Every touch felt slow but second-nature. Still half asleep, I didn’t know what to think of the man underneath me. My legs intertwined with his just as my mixed emotions started getting all tangled together.

I was tired. I was anxious. I was in love.

“What’s gotten into you?” I mumbled between kisses.

“Nothing, Rosie.” Noah gave me a sleepy-eyed smile. “This is how honeymoons are supposed to be.”

His hand curled around the nape of my neck, and even if it only lasted five minutes, I wanted to be like this with Noah. I shut my eyes to escape and forget. My fears could be saved for later. Right then, I longed to live in the fantasy and twist around in the rumpled bedsheets.

This was what I wanted.

Lacing my arms over his shoulders, I kissed Noah with all the passion I could muster after a restless night. My lips parted for him, and my tongue welcomed his. His body heat warmed me wherever his hands couldn’t, even as they wandered the curve of my spine to settle on my hips. Noah’s fingertips ran under the waistband of my underwear, and I felt where we were going. It was in the fluttering beat of my heart and the growing length between his legs.

His kisses moved across my cheek and behind my ear. I inclined my head to make space for him. Every piece of me began craving more. Nothing felt like enough.

“How long has it been since we woke up like this?” I thought aloud while my body grew heavy under the weight of anticipation.

Noah cursed under his breath. “Too fucking long.”

Gripping my backside, he turned us so we fell side by side on the mattress.
