“Don’t talk to me like that. I’m not disrespecting you Honesty.”

“There is no way I can hear that Karle has been entertaining or hear that another bitch is trying to get close to my gotdamn best friend’s husband and I’m not going to say anything to her about!”

“Honesty! It wasn’t like that! I promise it wasn’t!”

“I don’t give a damn what you thought it was like- if you had food stuck in your teeth, a gotdamn false eyelash falling off, or a bitch ogling over your man- we been rockin with each other for a long azz time, I’m supposed to tell you any and everything!”

“I’m sorry Honesty.”

“Real friends go through the good, the bad, and the ugly! And no matter how ugly it was you were supposed to show up on my doorstep with a Xanax, Valium, bottle of Patron, or Hennessy or something to calm me down after I had gone to see that female! That’s what friends do!”

“I’m sorry, why won’t you listen to me?”

“I’m not listening to you because the last time we had a family BBQ in the park for the soldiers- you remember when Jennifer asked Karle to give her the best sausage he had? Do you remember how you acted because Tangie didn’t tell you she heard what Jennifer said? Now if you acting like that with Jennifer, I don’t think you know what school that girl’s kids go too now, so you aren’t even tight with her, yet you wanted respect?”

“I said I was sorry Honesty. I just didn’t know how to bring it to the head of the number two usher board!”

“I swear all ya’ll slimy lying ass people tell the same story!”

“I didn’t want this right here between us! This is the reason I didn’t tell you!”

“I don’t care what you have to say now! I’m sitting on the floor in tears because my damn husband has two other kids out there in the street! Every little bit of nothing eventually turns into something! Had it been Karle what would you have liked me to do?”

“Please calm down so we can talk instead of argue!”

“Karle is down there now in the county- what if the feds had found kids instead of guns? Had it been Karle what would you have liked me to do?”

“Ho-“

“Ya’ll muthafuckas have had years to come up with an answer! Answer me now!”

She flopped down on the bed.

“I would have wanted you to tell me if the chic at the gas station on 21st street winked at him, you already know that. I get what you’re saying and right now in this moment- I realize I was wrong. I really do.”

“Just like I thought! I would have bet my right foot you would expect me to tell you something! Now a wink is small shit but me not tell you that? Me, Honesty, your best friend since we were five years old, I am not going to tell you about small shit wouldn’t matter to you!
