Chapter 16

Lucy 16:1

I was dreaming about Bohden when the sound of my own name woke me. He had been holding me and stroking my hair while telling me how glad he was to see me. The feel of soft pillows and a comforter made of clouds against my skin made me hesitate to open my eyes.

“Lucy,” the waker-upper repeated.

I groaned and eased my lids open with a yawn. Everything around me was familiar, from the pretentious furniture I had come to love, with its gold embellishment and red fabric, all the way down to the gaudy curtains left closed over the windows. Sven was snoozing at the foot of the bed, and I wondered what had made him so courteous all of a sudden, considering he usually preferred to be on my body somewhere, no matter how inconvenient.

“Feeling better?” the voice asked.

Directing my attention to the speaker, I found my grandfather sitting in a love seat with one leg dramatically crossed over the other. His arm was propped up against the back as he leaned into the cushions, his hand tapping impatiently along the exposed wood. He didn’t look a day over twenty-five, which was obviously not accurate.

Still embarrassed by my outburst earlier, and my attempted murder, I felt my shoulders slump. My focus slid to the blanket in shame. When I gathered my courage to look back up, he had a wicked grin on his mouth, and I realized my grandfather was actually smoking hot. Along with that observation came a little bile that jumped its way up my throat because I just called my grandpa hot, even if it was in my head. Something was seriously wrong with me.

“It’s not your hormones, and it’s completely normal. It happens to everyone. Even Aros…” he said, and I cut him off with a gesture of my hand. The other hand was being used to cover my mouth to keep me from throwing up.

“Nope. Nuh uh. I don’t care if it’s the work of magic or whatever, it’s still not right,” I muttered through my fingers.

He sighed and leaned forward, resting his hands on his knees. “Well then, as much as I’m enjoying this reunion, let’s get to it, shall we?”

I sat up straighter as my brain changed gears. “Yes! Abaddon took my people! Can you help us?”

As another sigh assaulted my ears, my stomach dropped.

“Firstly, I know most of what is going on. Aros filled me in while you were resting, but why don’t you start at the beginning and tell me again. Maybe there is a missing detail or something that can help us figure this out,” he prompted, and I nodded agreeingly. From the look on his face, I had a hunch that he didn’t know what to do either. Or maybe he did and just didn’t want to tell me yet.

"How much do you need to know?” I checked.

Lucifer’s expression grew even more serious. “You better tell me every detail.”

So, I started at the beginning and tried desperately not to leave even the smallest thing out.
