The glass offices are black and glossy in the night lighting. The building’s lobby is deep below us, the security lights stud the lower floor like candlelight. The black drop has an elegant quality. I realize that Valdor’s office is a very theatrical setting. Deiderich follows me as we step off the elevator and move to his office.

I pause at the glass door and hang off the polished steel door handle. Deiderich fumbles with his keyring. I feel his hand brush my hip. I playfully bump it away with a wolfish grin. A smug grin meets my eyes. Before I can fire off an intelligent quip, Deiderich pulls his office door open. I follow him in and watch him boot up his laptop.

The fans of paperwork fill the shiny varnished desk. I walk to the file cabinet and try to read the paper labels on the drawers in the dark. It’s easier to do when Dedirich pops on the overhead lights. I squint until my eyes adjust.

I look over at Deiderich, he rolls his leather office chair out and motions to me to sit. I lay my flannel shirt down on the corner of the desk. I meet him at the chair and I roll it away so we are both standing. I glance down at the laptop and lean over to open the website.

“Alright, Ms. Wizard, blow me away?” Deiderich declares.

I start pulling up some things that have me confused about the site. I have been wanting to ask a few things since day one, but the man always seems crushed under a dark cloud when he’s here. It’s nice to see him smiling and flirting. Hopefully, I can use this good time to get some insight into the thinking that went into some of these design choices. I open up the landing page to get the ball rolling.

“First off, who chose this font?”

I point at the ivory cream text that loops around like a twelve-year-old's HTML class project on Victorian dolls.

“It’s entirely too big to be taken seriously and why the hell is it this god-awful hard-to-read color used? Text should be black or blue on a professional site. The only time a color like this is even remotely acceptable is when you want to use black as your backdrop. Which you don’t because black and weapons could give the impression you promote violence,” I reply.

I can see my last word choice has struck a chord with him. He nods.

“Also, never go for this flowery shit. A business needs to keep its font choice simple and classic. That’s why I chose Times New Roman and Courier in my edit. I open up the shared drive and show my revamp of the landing page.”

I watch as Deiderich’s eyes widen. My design is vastly different and much cleaner than the oversized background photo and the tea party invitation font.

“Holy shit, that does look better,” he admits.

“Thank you, I’m glad you agree,” I mumble.

Then I pull a tab up for the company blog page.
