A Life of Being Filled

Here is how I stay continually filled with the Holy Spirit:

I daily choose to walk in obedience to God. The Bible says the Holy Spirit is “given to those who obey Him” (Acts 5:32). Jesus said if anyone wants to be His disciple, “let him deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow Me” (Luke 9:23). This is a heart attitude; daily I offer to Him my life “as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God” (Romans 12:1 NIV)—it is my spiritual act of worship.

Every day, usually in the morning, and often throughout the day, I ask the Father to fill me with the Holy Spirit. If I need to drink plenty of water on a daily basis to be healthy, how much more should I drink of the Holy Spirit by asking Him to fill me so I can stay spiritually sharp and healthy? Luke 11:13 says, “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!” I ask Him in faith to fill me, and by faith I receive that infilling. This is not rocket science; if we do not have, it is because we do not ask (see James 4:2).

I keep before me the vision of a great revival and harvest. What this does is give me a holy dissatisfaction with the status quo. It keeps me hungry for more. “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,” Jesus said, “for they shall be filled” (Matthew 5:6).

Finally, I try to receive an impartation from others who are anointed and full of the Holy Spirit. I am a God chaser, and those whom He has anointed carry His glory. You may find such people around you; they could be your pastors or anointed, godly people in your church or city. If you are really hungry, you may want to visit another church, city or nation where a move of God is taking place—for example, by making a “pilgrimage” to one of the global hot spots where God is moving in revival: China, India, Africa, Brazil and Indonesia. Our network, HIM, leads short-term mission trips to these five hot spots to do ministry, but our primary goal is to receive an impartation through the revivals.
