The earliest known picture of George B. McClellan, a daguerreotype dating from about 1846, shows him as a West Point cadet. With him are his father, Dr. George McClellan, and his sister, Mary.
Captain McClellan (right), sent in 1855 to study Europe’s armies, in Warsaw with his host and seated colleagues Alfred Mordecai and Richard Delafield.
Major General McClellan was photographed at the Mathew Brady studio soon after reaching Washington to take command of the Army of the Potomac.
The Prince de Joinville, a member of France’s royal family who served on McClellan’s staff, did this water color at an outpost in the Washington lines in 1861. With McClellan are Fitz John Porter (right) and Randolph Marcy.
