Perspective Check #5—Keep an Eternal Outlook

Our final perspective check is arguably the most important of all. No matter what challenges you may go through in your relationships, your responsibilities, your burdens—remember this: All our trials on earth are temporary. God is working now to restore our lives for eternity. And eternity lasts a lot longer than today.

Remember my friend Valerie? She’s counting on that:

“I truly believe all the problems I’m going through in my relationships right now is just the fertilizer for the relationships I will cultivate in heaven. When people hurt us and we feel like we can’t repair what’s broken, we need to step back and see the bigger picture—the eternal perspective—or we’re just going to despair. My struggles here are preparing my eternal garden for harvest. I really believe that one day, when all is made perfect again, those relationships will be beautiful.”

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
