“This is why it pays not to get close to anyone,” MacDonald said from the doorway to Wesley’s room, where it was Caleb’s turn being sick.

Caleb blew her a kiss. “Catch it, sweetheart.”

MacDonald swept a red lock off her face with her middle finger, and left. Wesley continued reading Caleb’s horoscope. Not that he needed it to know the near future. “It’s not looking promising.”

“My throat feels like someone’s juicing it.”

“I told you to go home when I came down with it.”

Caleb flattened his lips and changed the conversation. “I have a math assignment I needed to do over the weekend, due tomorrow.”

Wesley sank into his chair and groaned. “Why didn’t you do it yesterday?”

“I thought I could finish it today.”

“You won’t be going to school tomorrow anyway.”

Caleb rubbed his throat. “I’ll be better by then. I have to be. I have rehearsals.”

Wesley passed Caleb his half-cup of water. “You’re not going to rehearsals either.
