Chapter Eight

Fiery pain woke her, and for a moment, Miranda didn‘t know where she was. Well, she kind of knew— naked and on someone’s lap. She rubbed her cheek against the nude chest she found herself against, the coarse hair on it abrading her skin. A rumble in said chest and a tightening of arms around her midsection clarified the situation.

Chase has me.

―Are you awake?

―Define awake, she replied, lifting her head and looking around. The familiar back of the FUC van greeted her, along with Bo‘s white-toothed grin.

―Hey, if it isn‘t Bugs, back with the living. I didn‘t think there was anything that could take your furry ass down once you shifted.

Chase growled at Bo‘s statement, but Miranda chuckled and squirmed to sit upright. The sharp agony in her arm made her hiss in pain.

―Damned flamethrower! Bullets I can handle, but fire bloody well hurts.

―You‘re insane, Chase muttered in a disgusted tone.

―But cute, she sassed back. And she knew he agreed judging by the tree branch poking at her backside. However, intriguing as she found his erect state, the pain of her injuries commanded her attention.

Scooting off Chase‘s lap, a sharp pain in her thigh made her drop to her knees on the floor. Oops, forgot about that bul et hole. When in her rabbit‘s 88

berserker state, she tended to not feel injuries, but once the battle was done, talk about ouch.

The jacket covering her fell to the floor as she breathed through her pain. Not that she cared. Nudity didn‘t bother her. Most shifters didn‘t care given how clothes disappeared when they shifted.

―Close your eyes, Chase growled. Miranda turned a startled glance his way, but realized he meant Bo, not her.

―I think I‘ll go sit up front with Vic. Bo moved away in a half crouch and clambered into the front, leaving Miranda alone with Chase.

―Whatever you think you‘re doing, stop before you pass out again,

he growled.

―I‘m fine now, she lied through gritted teeth as she scrounged for something to wear. They kept spare t-shirts and track pants, ugly brown FUC

issue, for emergencies such as this in the back. She tossed the largest ones she could find at Chase with her good arm. The burnt one…that one she kept tucked to her side and tried not to brush anything against it, or move it.

It would heal; all her wounds would as a result of her shifter genes, but it would hurt like crazy in the meantime.

She heard Chase moving around behind her, and wondered if she should turn around for a peek at his body before he covered it up. But given her current state, why tempt herself? She wasn‘t in any condition to do anything about it.

Holding back a sigh, she sat on her butt, and tried to haul her pants on one-handed.

With a snort, Chase came to her aid. ―Silly bunny. He handled her with care, sliding the cotton bottoms on, but he only pulled them past her knees before stopping.
