… and that meant I’d won the whole thing!

So I looked around for my friends, to celebrate. But Riyad wasn’t there, he’d wandered off. And Anisha had gone too. And Henrik had been chased away by angry gamblers. I was surrounded by a crowd of randos. And my head felt kind of weird from the Forced Reboot.

Fernando was still there, at least. I think he could tell I was feeling a bit wobbly, because he put his arm round my shoulders and said, “Come on. I got you.”

And we set off out the back of the park and across the little alley behind the shops, back to my road. It felt like something was up, because Fernando was not laughing or celebrating, but looked WEIRDLY SERIOUS.

“What’s up?” I asked him. “We WON!”

“Yeah, but Freddy …” he said. And now he had a look on his face so serious it was starting to worry me. “I was sitting at the bottom of the tower. I could see right up into the tunnels.”

“Um, so?” I said, getting a bad feeling about this.
