By the time Ava and I had dinner, I gave her a bath and got her ready for bed. She was inches away from crashing for the night but that routine was interrupted by a notification that someone was in my driveway. With Ava in my arms, I headed to the front door to check the monitors and noticed it was Steel, so I pulled the door open and waited for him to come in.

Ava’s little head immediately popped up when she saw him.

“Seal?” She peeled away from me, falling right into his arms, turning his big ass into a softy immediately. She couldn’t quite work that “st” so Steel became Seal.

“My pretty girl. I missed you.”

He kissed her cheeks, smiling just as big as she was. “Me too,” she sang, hugging his neck.

“You were gone a long time. Did you have fun?”

“Yes, with GiGi and Pop.”

His eyes cut right to me but only for a brief minute. “Did you bring me something back?”

Ava grinned and shook her head before laughing.

“Man, nothing, not one thing?” This fool was playfully pouting but Ava wasn’t falling for it. She giggled, shaking her head again.

“Aight, pretty girl. I’m gonna remember that.”

“You just pulling up without hitting me first?” I asked, reaching for Ava who all but leaped into my arms.

“I didn’t think I had to.”

“What if I had plans?” I tossed out, heading to the back of the house to get Ava in bed.

“Do you?” Steel stopped in the doorway while I got Ava situated in bed. Luckily she was tired so she didn’t fight me. Her little eyes were already closing when her head sank into the pillow. I pressed a kiss to her cheek and whispered that I loved her in her ear before tucking her securely under the covers. She snuggled up next to the fluffy stuffed elephant damn near the same size as my baby.

“I might,” I finally answered after we stepped out of Ava’s room. Steel followed me back through the house until we reached the living room where we both sat on opposite ends of the sofa.

“With who? I didn’t see your moms or Maureen and I know you’re not just letting anybody up in here, so what plans do you have?”

“Just plans, damn. Why you worried about what I have going on?”

“Oh so you’re on some top secret vibe.”

“Bruh, why the fuck are you here?”

He chuckled and lifted the remote pulling up the guide and I already knew what he was looking for. SportsCenter.

“Si was here with Ava earlier today.”

“Yeah I know Nora told me.”

“Why the fuck she hitting you up about that?”

“She wasn’t. She hit me up about some travel dates for New York. It was mentioned during the conversation.” He tossed the remote back between us after he found what he was looking for. “How that go?”

“Like it always does. She spent most of her time with Ava then found her way in my face while she was napping.”

Steel just laughed smugly but didn’t respond.
