Another location where potential energy can be encountered by emergency responders is at the scene of a motor vehicle crash. Hybrid vehicles have high voltage electrical systems that have the potential for injury or death, and many vehicles are equipped with air bags and pressurized cylinders. Cutting one of these vehicles with extrication tools can be a dangerous ordeal. Technology has come to the rescue in the form of smart phone applications (or apps) that allow a responder to look up the vehicle they need to rescue a victim from and learn where to disconnect power and where to (and where not to) cut.
