A friend provided a refuge for some homeless people.

Acting on a tip from an undisclosed source, the local news media publicly attacked him. They alleged he exploited the poor because of the location of the temporary housing.

He realized he was theoretically wrong because of an antiquated land-use violation. Rather than fuel the media fire by responding in fear or panic, he quietly resigned from his elected post, as well as the various boards on which he served.

His anonymous accuser cost our city a great resource, and the families went back to the streets. But he continues to help others in need.

We may have the best intentions, but others’ agendas or motives can hinder our honorable acts. As we seek opportunities to do right, let us examine every factor that could impede our efforts.
