AIR KISSED

LARKIN & ETHAN

CHAPTER ONE

I fiddled with the hem of my shirt as I rode the elevator up to Ethan’s office. I could see how pale I was in the reflection of the shiny metal doors, my freckles more pronounced than ever, and I tried to paste a confident smile onto my face. It didn’t work, and I quickly dropped it in favor of smoothing my light blond hair. I'd recently cut it short in an effort to make myself look older, but I was starting to think it had the opposite effect, making me look like a pixie. Not that Ethan would even notice, I thought with a sigh.

A few months ago, I'd started working with the Libra alpha to find a good place for the Moon Witches to live. I’d initially reached out to him on Ayla’s recommendation since he worked in real estate here in Toronto and owned many properties and hotels. We'd traded emails back and forth over the last few months to narrow down the options, and there was one in particular that looked perfect. Today I was here to discuss it with Ethan so I could decide if I wanted to look at it in person.

As the elevator neared the penthouse, nervous butterflies fluttered around my stomach, while my heart beat at dangerous speeds. I was starting to second-guess that cup of coffee I'd had before coming here. I wished I could say it was the property I was excited and nervous about, but that would be a lie.

Though I would never confess it out loud, I’d loved Ethan from the moment I'd set eyes on him, right after I returned to Earth with Ayla. Since then, I’d spent every moment either pining for him or trying to get over him. Every time there was a Convergence I feared he would get his mate, but he was still single. Even so, I would never have a chance with him. He only saw me as a friend.

And who could blame him? I was stuck inside of a teenage body after living most of my life in Lunatera, where time didn't flow like it did here on Earth. I was in my early forties, but on the outside, I didn’t look a day over fifteen. No decent guy would even consider me romantically, and Ethan was the best guy I knew. Nothing would ever happen between us while I looked like this, but it didn’t stop my crush on him from growing into something unmanageable.

The elevator dinged and the doors opened onto the top floor, where Ethan’s office was. I sucked in a bracing breath before stepping out into the nice lobby, which was smooth and sleek with large windows overlooking Toronto. The front desk was empty, and I hesitated in front of it.

Ethan came walking down the hallway with an easy smile on his face and the whole world seemed to stop. His dark hair framed his face in ways that made his sharp cheekbones and strong jawline look good enough to lick.
