Janella didn’t know Angelo was suspended from the case until an hour of shadowing him when she spotted the female partner stroll towards his parking spot and hand him a cup of coffee. The muted conversation was brief, but the last part had her ears perking.

“I’m sorry that I got you suspended.”

“Stop apologizing. You didn’t. That asshole Philip did.”

“Yes, well, rest assured that the guy won’t be bothering me again. He’s smart enough to steer clear of female cops after what the captain had done.”

“What did Cap do?” Angelo asked, curiosity coloring his tone.

They shifted into whispers, had her backing off as his face lit up and the unholy gleam tightened her belly. That she could still imagine that mouth doing all sorts of wicked things didn’t help with her libido, but she was calm enough as the two partners parted and he got back in his car. Minutes later, he parked in a busier spot and started writing tickets for cars, but not the way that she was used to seeing.

A charming conversation was had with an old lady, who talked about her late husband with so much fondness.

“Boy, you remind me of him, you know. All that charm oozing out of your pores and that smile committed to seducing ladies left and right.”

“I have no intention of seducing ladies left and right, ma’am. And I bet with that lovely personality of yours, your late husband only had eyes for you.”

“Oh, you flatter me.”

The teenager who had parked his car illegally was petulant at first, then became complacent as Angelo kept talking.

“Now, if you want, we can hash this out in a much friendlier setting. Here. Meet me tomorrow at this spot and you will have the signs re-memorized in no time.”

“Are you sure, sir? Can’t I just pay the fine—”

“There will be coffee and lunch, my treat. Plus, that girl you keep trying not to look at, I know her. Maybe I can introduce you if you prove to be a good, respectful boy.”

That did the teenager in, who apologized profusely and excitedly promised that he would be there tomorrow. The next ticket was written for a woman in her twenties, who fluttered her lashes at him.

“Officer, is there no way that we can forget about this? How about dinner and drinks, my treat?”

“Ma’am, this is already your third offense and I would hate to see you go down that path of destruction. You seem like a pleasant lady with a bright career ahead of you. You are a lawyer, aren’t you? You are from that private firm known to help victims who lost cases against their wealthy opponents. Mostly business-related stuff.”

“Well, yes…”

“It’s so cool. How did you turn the tables for them? How did you accomplish such heroic feats?”

By the time the conversation was done, the woman was offering free services in case Angelo needed some legal help. It didn’t stop there as each interaction with a human ended up with the man helping someone and the other party being completely enamored.
