Blayde

The door jerked open and I stumbled backwards as a girl with bright pink hair jumped towards me. I didn't know if she was attacking me or what, but since none of the other guys reacted, I let her jump on top of me. "Blayde!"

"H-hi," I stuttered out, completely overwhelmed as she wrapped her arms around my neck, squeezing it so tight, I could barely breathe. She jumped back and I suddenly realized that she was a pipsqueak of a thing. Much shorter than me, with petite features, blazing blue eyes, and short, rainbow-colored horns protruding from her head. Her skin was porcelain white, with purple freckles dotting her face, and her smile was a thousand watts beaming up at me.

Her eyebrows furrowed. "Rhys told me about you."

My eyebrows shot upwards. "H-he did?"

She nodded enthusiastically. "Yep. Just now though," she leaned in conspiratorially, whispering and pointing at Rhys and Stellan, "we don't talk much, not since the you-know-what."

There was an uncomfortable but pregnant pause between us, but her laughter easily broke it. She turned towards Rhys, putting her hand on his shoulder. "Oh, don't be so pouty about it. We don't have to act like it never happened." Her eyes turned to Stellan. "I'm glad you found your true love."

It was really uncomfortably silent now and she looked around at us. I wasn't sure what Rhys had told her about everything, but I suddenly decided that I'd wished I'd asked.

"Well, come in."

I guess she decided that she wasn't going to ask about why we were all looking so uncomfortable and that was mighty polite of her.

She gestured us inside, pausing to peer down at Tuddle. "Aren't you adorable? Are you Blayde's familiar?"

Tuddle gave her an incredulous look. "That, my dear, is none of your business."

"Tuddle!" I turned to her. "I'm sorry, he's rude on his best days."

"It's okay," she pat my arm, as Rhys and Stellan stepped into the house. "I know a familiar when I see one, and they're overly protective of their humans."

"Ha," I scoffed, "he’s all too easily bribed with chocolate or bacon."

"Not likely," Tuddle muttered as he entered the house and I stared after him in shock, surprised that he hadn't asked for any the minute I'd brought it up.

I turned to Lily. "I really am sorry."

She shook her head. "Don't worry about it. I know I'm a bit much." She hunched her shoulders, her cheeks tinging a soft red. "I'll try to tone it down for him."

"Please don't." I shook my head, stepping into the house. "I'd love to see him annoyed."

She sniggered, her face scrunching up in a cute expression as she followed behind me, pausing to close the door behind us. As I took in the glory of her house, I really wanted to hate Lily. She had a beautiful, but homey, house with large windows and rows of planted flowers surrounding the entranceway. We walked down the beautifully buffered dark, hardwood floors, something I was certain was an anomaly in the Torch, as everything I’d ever seen was stone or tile.
