Last Adam First

Imagine a battlefield where two enemies are preparing to confront one another. Both sides have spent hours strategizing, organizing into battalions, and stockpiling their weapons. Just as the battle begins, one side realizes something is missing—they forgot to bring their bullets! They have their guns, but they don't have the ammunition to make their guns effective. It doesn't take a genius to figure out which side will win the battle.

Before the believer's spiritual weapons are explained in the next chapter, I want to give you some ammunition. Many Christians go into battle with their weapons, but they have no ammunition. Without bullets, a gun is useless. In this chapter you will find anointed "bullets" to use for the times when Satan tells you that you will never change, that your spouse will never change, that your children will never change.

In this chapter, you will see how Jesus went back to the beginning of mankind to eradicate our sin. A person pulling dandelions from his front yard doesn't merely remove what is in plain view. To ensure that they don't grow back, dandelions must be pulled out roots and all. We learned in chapter one that the root is the key to the fruit. When dealing with sin, you have to get to the root in order to get rid of it. In this chapter, we are going to get to the root of sin.

Satan's Plan for Man's Sin

An important principle for sharing the gospel with unbelievers is to communicate that God loves them and has a wonderful plan for their life. Did you know that Satan has a plan for your life as well? Satan's plan is to breed sin into the human race as a means to overcome his enemy and past employer, God. When Satan deceived Adam, sin entered into the descendants of Adam, the Adamic race. Paul says that Adam was a pattern of things to come (Rom. 5:14). Since Adam, all humanity has resident within them the pattern of sin.

Before their sin, Adam and Eve were naked, clothed only in the glory of God, and together the three walked in intimate communion. After their sin, when God came around to walk with them, Adam and Eve hid themselves because of their guilt, shame, and condemnation (Gen. 3:8). Do you see the weapons Satan has been using since the very beginning? It's so devious. Satan lures us into sin and then condemns us for doing what he tried to get us to do in the first place! Then he deceives us into thinking that we can correct our transgressions by being good. That's where legalism and the law enters in. Can you see the vicious cycle? It began in the garden, and it's still going strong today.

But God had another plan wrapped in another Adam, named Jesus. When Jesus came, He became the last Adam, the final representative of the Adamic race, taking upon Himself all of the guilt, sin, curse, and condemnation of Adam's transgression.
