TWENTY-FIVE

Chance loved how Kenya slid her naked body along his, all their parts having somehow melded in the grand scheme, molded perhaps as a whole, then separated, so they could live their respective lives, each soul still seeking the other, until they came together again.

Blessed be, he couldn’t help comparing their pairing to a fate designed in Everlasting. Ordained. Never again to be parted.

He wished the triumvirate believed in the two of them. Never mind the glitch that Kenya had lived and he had died.

With Kenya still focused on the physical plane, she cupped his bottom and purred. At the small of his back, she made a series of swirls, or . . . “Are you writing on my back with a finger?”

“Yep, I wrote M-I-N-E. So whoever gave you wings will understand that events have changed your ownership.”

“You think you can influence God? She’s a pretty strong personality, you know.”

Kenya sat straight up, her blanket clinging to one, only one, breast, the other making his mouth water. He moved so his erection poked her in the thigh.

“God is a woman? Hot damn.”

“Saying hot damn about God is like missing the Creator’s point the way you’re missing mine, Kenya dearest. Yes, God’s a woman, but she’d rather be cool and blessed than hot and damned.”

“Oops.” Kenya clapped a hand over her mouth, sorry for half a second. Then she grinned. “God is a woman Chance!” Kenya declared, her grin rather glorious. “Bless her. You know, I’ve always suspected she could have done the period thing better, don’t you think? That, and maybe put a man’s balls in some kind of protective—”

Chance imagined Kenya giving God biology lessons. “I’ll give her your suggestions.”

“Thank you.” Kenya lay facing him, watching the way he watched her, and he thought, Okay, this is it. This is where we get busy and start making love again.

“This is amazing, us as a couple.”

Ah, he’d always hated the call to brutal honesty. “You know, don’t you, that us as a couple was over before it began, right?”

She denied his assertion with a shake of her head. “I’ve always been more interested in the here and now. I’m a work in progress, myself.”

“Great progress.”

“Thanks,” she said, rising up to kneel on the bed. “Roll over.”

Brain blip, probably due to the natural beauty of the goddess before him. “Please explain.”

She huffed and rolled him to his stomach.

“Ouch, careful. You’re going to sprain my dick. It’s hard as a pikestaff, in case you didn’t notice.”

“Pikestaff?” she repeated. “What did you do, reincarnate from medieval times?” Meanwhile her hands were all over his back, a pretty gloriously terrific experience.

“We do reincarnate, don’t we?” she confirmed. “You said you’d been an unremarkable lawyer in another life.”

“Sure,” he said. “I was Henry the Eighth’s divorce lawyer. You saw how that went.”

She sat back on her heels. “Was Anne Boleyn terribly beautiful?”

“Get a grip, Kenya. I was a lawyer, before I died.”

She scrambled back so fast, she fell off the bed.

He turned on his
