CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE

Edinburgh

George stood in the shadows of the street and looked up at the windows of Luke Ryan’s flat. Lights were on, proving the information Jasper had given her was accurate. She spotted three people inside. How confident, how certain the Reaper was that he could get his friends in and out without being discovered.

Druids had stood on the back line for too long. It was time everyone on the planet understood they were here—and powerful.

George searched for Beth. She had waited long enough for the Druid to arrive. It wasn’t George’s fault she hadn’t shown up in time. She motioned for the three teams to go into the building. The surprise attack would give them the time they needed to capture at least one of those inside. The Reaper would likely get away, but it wasn’t him George wanted.

Her people knew what was at stake and understood that every decision and action counted. The first group went in through the front, a second through the back, and the third from the roof. There would be no escape for Scott Ryan this night. He would answer for his desertion and betrayal in front of the entire assembly.

With Willa handled, and Scott about to be captured, it was only a matter of time before George had Luke. And then she could turn her full attention to Elias.

Her Druids entered the building without mishap. A stone reader was on his knees at her side, his hands on the ground to connect to the huge network of stones that made up the city. She cut her gaze to him, watching his expression for anything.

“Well?” she prompted when she grew tired of waiting.

He turned his face to her, his eyes still closed. “There’s nothing.”

“Good.”

“I’m no’ so sure.”

George looked back at the windows. “Why?”

“The stones are no’ saying anything.”

“Then make them.”

His eyes opened, and he pinned her with a look. “That isna how it works.”

George’s stomach tightened, and her breathing quickened. There was only one way to salvage this. “We’re going in.”
