Dimming the lights isn’t always a prerequisite for romance, but it’s not a bad start. At this swanky subterranean Cantonese restaurant, the whole place is cloaked in near-darkness, from the sleek ebony room dividers with Oriental-style latticework, to the ultra-low setting of the lighting. Only the individual bulbs dangling over each table (so that you can actually see what you’re eating) would make any kind of dent on the electricity bill. The Michelin-starred cooking is superb – as you’d expect at these tooth-sucking prices – lending finesse to high-street dishes (jasmine tea-smoked pork ribs, sesame prawns on toast) and smarter options (the signature roasted silver cod with champagne, for example). A seriously sexy spot.
