WEIRD THINGS THAT WORK TO KEEP YOUR CAR CLEAN

Cooking spray removes brake dust. You know that fine black stuff that collects on the wheels of your car and is so hard to clean off? That’s brake dust—it’s produced every time you apply your brakes and the pads wear against the brake disks or cylinders. Next time you’re shining your wheels, give them a light coating of cooking spray. The brake dust will wipe right off.

Mayonnaise takes road tar or pine sap off your car with ease. Slather some mayonnaise over the affected area, let it sit for several minutes, and wipe it away with a clean, soft rag.

Socks make a perfect hand mitt for buffing the wax on your car.

Vinegar removes bumper stickers. Saturate the top and sides of the sticker with undiluted distilled vinegar and wait 10 to 15 minutes for the vinegar to soak through. Then use an expired credit card to scrape it off. Use more vinegar to get rid of any remaining gluey residue.

Vinegar also keeps frost from forming. Wipe or spray the outsides of the windows with a solution of 3 parts white vinegar to 1 part water. Each coating may last up to several weeks.

Dryer sheets are great for picking up pet hair that’s stuck to your upholstery. Take a used fabric softener sheet and swipe it across the fabric. Even tenacious hair will get sucked right off the material, and the sheet will even leave behind a clean scent.
