I’m starting to think I have a type. I glance at my phone, wishing a certain Ferris wheel hottie was calling. Alas, I’m the one who made up the dumb rule of no names and doubled down on our one night of fun when he asked.

In my defense, we were sitting in the back of a sheriff’s car, and I wasn’t exactly happy about the situation. I will give Jackson credit—he managed to sweet-talk us out of trouble. But that brand of charm is dangerous, which is why I said, “Thanks for tonight and goodbye.” It was a smart decision, even if I haven’t stopped thinking about him.

That is, until today.

Dammit. I should’ve gotten Clyde’s number or given him mine. There was no reason not to. Seeing as I leave on Sunday morning to go back to New York and school, it would’ve made for a fun no-strings weekend. Maybe I can go back tomorrow and see if I run into him again.

Up until last Friday, I’d never been a girl who had the kind of stories worth telling. I think I like this new me. I let my head tip up, enjoying the sun on my skin as I drive in my aunt’s baby blue convertible Jaguar down the long stretch of road.

The drive back to the house is beautiful, but a little farther than I expected. She used to live deep in the city. I loved it, but now she’s hidden away on a large plot of land, surrounded by endless majestic trees. It’s picturesque, but it’s a million miles away from humanity and fun, which is why I drove into Savannah today. Stella didn’t need me and shooed me away to go “get into trouble.”

My shoulders shake with my laughter over the thought. Trees whip by, casting shadows on the pavement before I pull onto the road to the house, following the winding path before I reach the circular drive and slow to a stop. The house is ostentatious, much like my aunt. But I love them both.

Grabbing my bag and drink, I jump out of the car and make my way inside the house.

“Hello,” I yell out, “I’m home.”

Each time my aunt does these “health visits,” she lets her staff go for the first week she’s back. As if they’d believe she’d suddenly look twenty years younger. However, she does let Robert stay.

Robert, the pool boy/chef/orgasm giver who’s twenty years younger than Stella but also head over heels in love with her. God, she’s a legend.

“Hey, kid.” Speak of the devil. “Stella went for a nap. How was the city?”

“Gorgeous. Amazing. Everything I remember.” I smile, as I place my purse down on an oversized bench that flanks the door.

“Wow. Okay. You sure are peppy. You must have met a boy.”

I bite my bottom lip and give a shy smile as I walk into the living room.

“Oh, no. I don’t like the look on your face,” he says, following me.

I plop down on a tufted, flower-print armchair, letting my legs hang over one side.
