“KiKiKiKi!” The manic Kis made me wish I could further tense up at my voodoo mate’s spiraling eyes, but the strings tugged her higher until she was eye level. Her disappointment was so obvious but she swung herself forward just to latch onto my face.

And kissed me…before she stabbed my chest.

“Ow…” Nathan groaned. “She stabbed him.”

“But she did kiss him before she stabbed him so that’s a form of affectionate torture which is kind of cute,” Lauren offered. “What’s this about time stopping, bombs on the verge of exploding, and us needing to be marked?”

“Right,” Colton spoke up as Lexi was pulled back—her Kiki giggles trailing behind until she was back on the table thanks to Colton’s hand movements. “To quickly put it, that trickster Baker was lying to all of you about the whole countdown and shit.”

“Huh?” Lauren commented. “What do you mean he lied? He told his guards who, by the way, were going to shoot that bitch over there dead, rape and stun me before dropping me, and leave your Alpha’s ass here to become one with the blown-up earth, that in less than five minutes, this place would be blown to bits so they should hurry up.”

“Nah.” Colton shook his head. “The moment that douche left the building was when the bomb was activated.”

“But we’re still here,” Nathan voiced as he peered over at me with his eyes as if to make sure I was still in place. “Goldibitch was going to move but then got her throat sliced by Voodoo Lexi.”

“KiKiKiKiKi!” Voodoo Lexi laughed menacingly.

“Well, Voodoo Lexi actually did y’all a favor because you’d all be dead if that semi-beheaded tractor of a bitch moved a single step,” Colton revealed. “The bomb isn’t one simple explosion. This whole place is covered with land mines hidden beneath the floorboards.”

Fucking shit.

Even the guards didn’t have any words for the revelation which had Colton sighing as he further leaned against the rail like he was popped out.

“That’s why I had to pull out my puppeteer strings and lower Wallas to pick up Momo and the voodoo fleet to escape back to the valley first. As cute as they all are, none of them are coordinated. They would have gotten to dancing and accidentally fallen off the table. Then boom. We’re all dead. I’ll praise them for their needle acupuncture though.”

“What do the needles at our throat do?” the boss questioned. “Kill us?”

“Nah,” Colton replied. “Chances are she’ll pull them all out in one go, which will knock you all out at once, and well, I guess you can figure out what that’s going to trigger.”

“Aww shit,” one of the guards groaned. “So we’re still dying.”

“Sadly.” Colton didn’t seem the least bit sympathetic about it. “You were going to kill my friends. Can’t really pity any of you murderous rapists.”

“Rapists?!” one of the guards argued. “We didn’t rape anyone.”

“You were going to rape the cute chick over there who looks like Goldibitch but hotter.
