I wake up late. When I check my phone which Rin must have placed beside me on the nightstand, it’s already 9:04 a.m. It’s so dark in Rin’s room I could almost roll over and go back to sleep. Only he’s not here and I feel a little guilty. I mean he’s a paying client, but I think I crossed the line of whatever this is a long way back, and I’m struggling to work out what happens now. Also—I laugh at myself that this is an afterthought—he’s a demon and I don’t know if demons do sleepovers and brunch. Then again, until yesterday, I didn’t expect them to do cuddles in bed.

I pull the blanket up to my mouth to muffle my stupid giggle. This morning I feel happy and squirmy like a puppy on Christmas. I do wish Rin was here though, so I could snag one more cuddle or at least another look at him in the light of day just to reassure myself I didn’t dream the whole thing.

Just as I think this, the bedroom door opens and Rin walks in. He’s red-skinned and wild-looking with gray sweats hugging his lean hips. He pauses in the doorway, his hands full with a tray of food and what smells like hot coffee. “Is this OK?”

For a moment I think he’s asking if it’s OK that he is bringing me breakfast in bed. Then I realize he’s talking about his demon form. I can hardly stop myself grinning from ear to ear. “Of course, it’s OK. Is this for me?”

Rin seems to relax. You’d hardly know, since his expression looks as composed as ever, but he walks to the side of the bed and sets down the tray. Then he pulls a crisp white business shirt from a hanger in the closet. “Would you feel more comfortable with something to cover you? I enjoy looking at you without clothing on, but I thought perhaps...”

I’m about to turn him down. Now that I know he likes the way I look, I feel no particular need to cover up, but then I think about wearing his shirt, catching his scent on it and having it against my bare skin. I reach out and take it.

“Thank you. That’s really thoughtful.”

I tug the shirt on and sit back against the three pillows Rin tucks behind me. It’s smooth against my skin and it smells amazing, just like I thought it would.

He’s brought me croissants and jam, black coffee and fresh fruit. It’s perfect. Exactly what I would have chosen. My stomach grumbles and I don’t wait to dive in. Rin sits beside me on the bed, watching. On impulse, I hold out a strawberry for him. It’s bright and so ripe I can smell its sweet scent. To me it’s incredibly enticing, but I’ve never seen Rin eat. Rin’s eyes flick to my hand, and then he leans forward, wrapping his lips around my fingers to take the fruit. I shiver when the tip of his tongue brushes my skin.
