A knock at the door made her jump.

Patience came in. “I’m going now. Are you still working?”

“Just reviewing some cases before I knock off,” said Megan, kneading a knot in the back of her neck. “Cheers, Patience, have a good evening.”

Patience rolled her eyes. “Thulani’s mother and sister are coming up from Newcastle to visit. I don’t need a sangoma to throw the bones to know it’s not going to be a good evening. Better thing you have a good evening. Women in your condition need lots of rest.”

“What do you mean — women in my condition?” Megan blustered.

She hadn’t yet told Patience about the pregnancy. But her receptionist just smiled knowingly and went off with a little wave of her fingers.
