CHAPTER 6

I'VE SEEN HOW SHE LOOKS AT YOU.

I pulled my knees to my chest, missing how sane my life used to be just a few days ago. Sir Lancelot was just a cat, not a man who tempted me everytime he appeared in human form, naked and sexy as sin. When Merlin and Arthur were just names from some ancient legend. And before magic was real and I whispered spells I didn't understand.

Merlin growled in a way that made a woman wonder what it would sound like as he pushed her against a wall… Okay, I was that woman, but that wasn't the point. It wasn't right to be this attracted to two men. I refused to think about Arthur's sullen dominance. What his punishing kisses would feel like against my lips. I shook my head. If I could cast spells, I needed one that made all three of these men seem as off limits as they should be.

"I've heard that language before." Another spell book slammed on the table as Merlin flipped through the pages. He glanced up at a sketch he'd pinned to the wall with Arthur's dagger. "Why can't I find it? I remember seeing the design from the stone you…" Merlin's voice trailed off as his gaze met mine. He blinked, then glared at the leather bound notebooks sprawled over the table and chairs.

I was curled up on Merlin's bed with my back against the wall. Lance sat on the floor next to me, his face only a few inches below mine. On the other side of the room lay Arthur. Propped up on a few pillows and a folded up blanket, he lounged while he carved tips and notches into long wood sticks. There was a pile of bird feathers on the small table next to him with what appeared to be a string of some kind and liquid. It looked like he was making arrows.

Lance tapped my knee with his finger. "Are you okay? Your eyebrows are pinched together."

I searched his expression, wanting to know about this cat-man, but he always avoided answering me. "I'm managing."

He pulled at the clothing he wore. "Are you sure I have to wear these clothes? They're not very comfortable."

"Uh, yeah. I can't have you walking around naked."

"Being naked is natural. Wearing this scratchy fabric... not so much." Lanced fussed with his shirt, trying to get it just the way he wanted. After a moment, he glanced up at me.

Something about the way he looked at me made him irresistible. Before I realized I'd moved, I pressed my lips to his. Lance cupped the back of my neck, his thumb caressing my cheek as he deepened the kiss. His other hand gripped my shoulder, like he wanted to explore more of me, but wasn't sure if he could. A burning desire burst inside of me. I wanted to climb onto his lap and kiss him.

The abrupt sound of Merlin clearing his throat startled me. I jumped back. Part of me felt guilty I'd kissed Lance right in front of Merlin while he was working to send me back home.
