The Threat of the Second Amendment to the Ruling Class

If you listen carefully to speeches given by leaders of the Ruling Class, facts are remarkably scarce. Consider the press conference that President Obama held in Paris in November 2015 after a crazed gunman attacked an abortion clinic in Colorado. “Things like this don’t happen in other countries,” he said, to drive home his call for more gun control in America.1 There was no sense of irony in his statement, and the Ruling Class media didn’t object. But there in Paris, the president was standing within a few miles of where 130 people had been gunned down by a group of Muslim extremists associated with ISIS just a few days before.

Or consider his “commonsense” proposal to ban people on the no-fly list from being able to buy guns. There are a total of eight hundred Americans—either citizens or permanent residents—on that list. So stopping them from buying guns in a country where there are an estimated three hundred million firearms in circulation is not exactly going to make a dent. The no-fly list is composed of people who, according to the government (using a secret form of analysis), might commit an act of violence in the future, although not one has committed a murder by definition.2 Nevertheless, this was put forward after the San Bernardino attack on December 2, 2015, where two shooters with ties to radical Islam opened fire on those attending a holiday party, as a straw man for a “commonsense” way of curbing gun violence through greater regulation. The Ruling Class’s true goal, with comments like this, is nothing more than to weaken the impact of the Second Amendment, and they never miss an opportunity to try to take a swipe.

Their argument is not based on facts or analysis; it is entirely emotional. It is driven by the generic Ruling Class claim “Give us more money, give us more resources, and we will solve your problems.” The trouble is, their “solutions” are ineffective at best; often the problem persists, and many times it gets worse. This book has shown that to be the case with their attempts to reduce inequality, manage America’s finances, take over the public education system, and fix our deteriorating infrastructure. But once their failure is obvious, the Ruling Class argue that they just weren’t given enough power or enough resources; that they need even more.

It’s important to see through the falsehoods of the Ruling Class narrative and realize their true intentions when evaluating their proposals. Can their plan work as suggested, or will it fail like so many others and simply end up suppressing even more of our individual liberty? These are important questions to ask when it comes to gun control legislation. “Sounds good” isn’t enough, or shouldn’t be. “Will it actually make a difference?” is a much more powerful justification. That is why, with all of the calls for increased regulation of firearms, there’s been precious little effort expended in researching actual gun crime statistics.
