CHAPTER 4

This was the sixth apartment that Arman had seen. He couldn't afford it either. He had some money saved, but the problem was that everything was so expensive here. Evie had said he could stay with her, but he knew that wouldn't be a great plan.

First there was the fact that he wanted Mila all to himself. It might be selfish, but he wanted no distractions or anyone around when he was deep inside her. Being in his sister's apartment would be a major distraction being that he was still on the couch. At least he would be if he hadn't spent the last two nights with Mila making love into the morning hours.

The second was that he understood a mated couple's desire for each other. The last thing he wanted was to think about that with his sister and her mate in the next room. It was bad enough before his night with Mila. Now there was no way that he could lay there night after night and not wonder what was happening behind that closed door.

He had come here to reconcile with his sister. He didn’t think their relationship was ready for the two of them being mated and under the same roof.

There was also the simple fact that he was grown. Now that he was mated it was time that he found something of his own. He had also picked up some information about the college. He liked the idea of continuing the classes that he had been taking. He hadn't put much thought into what he was going to do with his life. It was something he knew he was going to have to figure out. Mila was a teacher. She deserved an educated man.

He pulled out his phone to that end, dreading the call that he needed to make. It rang longer than he would have expected. Just as he was about to hang up his mother came on the line.

“Are you back?” There was no hello or how are you.

“No, I am still here.” He didn’t need to tell her he was with Evie. She had been none too happy when he told her that he was coming for a visit.

“How is she?”

"Evie is doing well,” he informed her. "She finished her degree. Her art is being displayed at a local gallery where she has a job as one of the curators.” He would not tell her about the mating or her shifting. If Evie wanted to share that information that would be up to her.

“Then why are you still there?” she asked. “Why did you even go in the first place? She isn’t worth the time.”

“She is my sister.” He hated talking to his mother sometimes. “And your daughter. This was a big deal for her.”

“If you say so,” she dismissed. “When are you coming back?”

He took a breath, not wanting to get into what he had called to say but knowing that it had to be said. “I’m not coming back.”

There was dead silence from the other end.
