37. At this point, some might accuse me of prioritizing the “fragility” of the people who withered at this training. In reply, I would say that if the goal of training was to deepen racial resentment, this workshop succeeded. If, however, the goal was to create new opportunities for the narratives of people of color to shape congregational life, it failed. In fact, I would go even further and argue that many attendees are now inoculated against future attempts at having their narratives augmented or challenged. I believe this outcome makes congregational life worse for people of color who are attempting to make these spaces their ecclesial home.
