CHAPTER 11

EVAN

Well, I definitely hadn’t factored this into my plans for the evening. Not that I was complaining.

I wasn’t usually the kind of guy who jumped into bed – or tent – on the first date. But the thing was, while this did feel like a first date in some ways, it also felt like the twentieth date. We’d talked almost every day, often late into the night, for the past couple of months. This was just the first time we’d been in the same place since the night we met.

Not ready to be separated from Cassidy yet, I slid an arm under her shoulders, grabbed one of her legs, and rolled us over so she was splayed across my chest. I could feel the rise and fall of her breasts as she caught her breath, and I trailed my fingers up and down her spine as I just soaked up the utter perfection that was this moment.

“Stay with me tonight?” I asked quietly after a few minutes. “I don’t think I’m physically capable of watching you walk out the door.”

She pressed a kiss to my chest. “I don’t think I’m capable of leaving. But let me make sure Love can take care of Gandalf in the morning so I can head straight from here to the hospital. And that she can bring my guitar and a change of clothes there for me.”

Whoa, what?!

I put a hand under her chin and lifted her head so I could look at her. “The hospital?”

“Yeah. Ari and I visit the pediatric wings of hospitals in every city we go to when our schedule allows for it. She brings her keyboard, I bring my guitar, and we sing for the kids.”

Blowing out a long breath, I leaned up to kiss her. “Fuck, bluebird. Maybe lead with that part next time. You’re not the only one who jumps to worst-case scenarios.”

Cassidy let out a quiet giggle that made my heart soar. “Sorry.”

“That’s amazing that you do that, though. Actually…would it be stepping on your toes if I came with you and signed some footballs?”

She grinned. “As long as you’re ready for rumors about us to start flying, I’d love that. But I have an interview tomorrow night too with Channel 4 News. So if anyone posts pictures or videos from the hospital, I’ll probably end up fielding questions about it tomorrow night.”

“They’re not rumors if they’re true,” I pointed out. “I’m proud to be with you, beautiful. If you’re ready for the media circus, I’m ready to shout it from the rooftops.”

“My life is a media circus,” she chuckled. “Your life is the one that’s probably about to get a lot less private. And I feel awful about it because I know how much I hate that part of being a public figure.”

I rolled her back underneath me and kissed her hard. “As long as I get to keep you, everything else is just details.”

“I’m all yours, Orlando,” she murmured.

I brushed her lips with mine. “I love you.
