Chapter Five

Kelly Triplehorn

The petite blonde sitting in the passenger seat glanced back to Kelly and her captor, her striking gray eyes absolutely mesmerizing. Her face was marked with worry. “Sebastian, what did you do to her?” She blinked between the two of them.

With hands still wrapped around Kelly’s body, he pressed her closer to his chest. He looked down and examined her, his mouth stretched into a thin line. “She’s human.” He sounded far from thrilled.

There he went talking nonsense again.

“And should be treated as such! Delicate, Sebastian, they’re delicate!”

Kelly’s tears slowed to a stop as she listened to their conversation. Did this woman believe in this nonsense too?

Deranged. All of them. Which meant nothing good was coming for Kelly.

“I didn’t hurt her,” he argued. It was true. He didn’t physically hurt Kelly. Not yet, at least. The damage to her mind was another matter. The blonde pressed her lips together, not seeming to believe what Kelly’s captor, Sebastian, said. “I did not!” He defended himself against her heated stare, which seemed to hold little trust in him. “But I did snatch her,” he muttered, almost sounding ashamed to admit such a thing. “She doesn’t belong out there. Not anymore. Especially not in that filthy bar I found her in.”

The woman pressed a palm against her head. “Ugh, Sebastian!”

“She’s human!” He said this with such a deep rooted hatred in his voice that Kelly wondered what she could have ever done to have him already despise her so much.

Can’t justify insanity. She thought as she tried to wriggle free from his hold.

He only held her tighter.

“Let her go,” the young woman warned. Kelly swore she could hear Sebastian let out a deep, low growl in response. The blonde continued on, “I’m sorry she comes from the species you despise most, but it is what it is. You have to make the best of it.”

“Despise is an understatement,” he grated.

“Let her go. You don’t want your story to end up like Antonio’s, do you?”

Kelly didn’t understand what she was telling Sebastian, but whatever she said worked. Sebastian slackened his grasp on Kelly, allowing her to crawl away from him and to the opposite side of the car.

She was desperate for freedom. Even though she predicted the car door was locked, she still made an effort to open it.

Locked.

“So let me get this straight,” Lance, the man at the wheel said. “When you say you snatched her… are you claiming you kidnapped her?”

Kelly turned over, resting her backside against the car door. She watched as Sebastian crossed firm arms over his chest, sighing in obvious annoyance. “Is that a problem? Her life is with us now. No matter how much I wish it wasn’t.”

If he wished her life wasn’t with them why didn’t he let her go? Kelly didn’t understand! Still, she let them carry on with their conversation. She wanted to gather as much information about them and their motives as she could. She had always been an expert eavesdropper. Tonight would be no different.
