TWENTY-EIGHT

The moment the song began, Dunstan's body moved almost of its own accord. Though he had no memory of it, he knew this song, and the dance steps to go with it. Perhaps Anemone did not, for she did not accept his invitation to dance with him.

Very well. He would dance on his own, and show her how it was done. He felt her eyes on him, even as he turned and jumped with the beat. She couldn't seem to look away and the heat of her gaze was enough to melt stone.

Well, if she wanted a show, he'd give her a show. Dunstan stripped off his shirt and extended his wings. With one downbeat, he rose into the air above her, catching a beam of moonlight as he began to wave his arms again. When his wings grew tired, he landed on the ledge where someone had placed a small, fat gargoyle statue, and continued the dance, every movement wider, more pronounced. Until it came time to jump, and he used his wings to lift him into the air, higher than he could jump, before dropping down for the next sequence.

On the street below, a girl stood in the door to the café, holding her little screen up as if to block her view of Dunstan's dancing.

Perhaps he was being a bit vulgar...

"Should I stop?" he asked Anemone. Only her opinion truly mattered.

"Only if you want to," she said.

Dunstan considered for a moment. "Then can you play that song one more time?"

Anemone smiled. "Sure."
