I sat at home that night, thinking of what my neighbour had said to me earlier. All this time I'd spent thinking he was just some selfish asshole who didn't care about any of the people around him, and now I knew that he cared about at least one of them.

Or maybe I was just being sentimental. He probably just wanted to fuck. Isn't that what he'd been offering? I'll pay for your house, in exchange for your affection? Agreeing to that would be like agreeing to prostitution. No, there was no way I could agree to that request. No way I could validate it.

I got up off the couch and went up to my bedroom, seeking some solitude in my sleep.

I opened the door to my bedroom and was shocked to see him standing near the dresser, looking through a photo album of mine.

I screamed, and he turned to look at me, unconcerned by my shock.

"What are you doing here?" I shouted.

"I came to see you,” he said simply.

"How did you get in here? What are you doing?"

"Have you had time to think about my offer?"

"What? I ... you can't be here. You can't just break into my house."

"Stop acting like you're not happy I'm here," he said, "I can see it in your eyes. You're hungry for me, and I am for you too. Now answer my question. Have you thought about my offer yet?"

I stared at him, knowing he was right, knowing that I wanted him here. Wanted him inside my bedroom. Inside me. But I remained strong on the subject of my house.

"I have thought about it," I began.

"And?"

"I don't want you paying for my house," I said, "I know what you want, and maybe I want it too, but this place is mine. I don't need your charity."

"I see," he said, "maybe you'll feel differently afterward."

"What do you mean?" I asked. He was already coming toward me, and I was shocked for a moment when I realized that he wasn't slowing down as his face came toward mind. His lips pressed into mine and he put his hands on either side of my face.

Almost against my own will, I reached for him and took hold of his body, gripping him tight, pulling him against me. We stood there for a minute making out like that, and then broke apart again.

"I still feel the same about the house," I managed to say, "That didn't change my mind."

"That's not the thing I was talking about," he said.

"Okay," I said, "After what then?"

"Take off your clothes, get on the bed, and you'll find out."
