The last date she’d had was in high school. She’d shut down that side of her brain for the past ten years. Men were friends she worked with, depended on, not anything more.

But Blake didn’t fit into that category.

Blake was 100 percent a man she could date without any strings attached. She worked at his business, but she had an oddly reassuring thought that she had the family’s support. Of course, it’d helped that Olivia had stopped by as Chelsea got ready for her date, sitting on the end of her bed and chatting away about nothing important. It was such a “girl thing” to do, and she appreciated the distraction from her nerves.

Chelsea stepped out of her truck in front of a small house. Blake’s Audi sat parked under a garage to the side. She’d expected a big, fancy house for such an expensive car. But his home was normal.

He’s just an ordinary man.

But he wasn’t. He was incredible in so many ways that she still couldn’t wrap her head around the fact he found her remotely interesting.

She reached back into the car and grabbed the folder containing the printout of the new proposal for Ash Lumber. She’d finished the proposal the best she could while he was gone last week, planning on discussing it earlier today. But that had been derailed by the kiss and his mother.

The front door opened. Blake stood there, wearing tan slacks and a white dress shirt. A red towel hung over his shoulder.

He looked classy, and she looked like she’d climbed off the back of a motorcycle with her white long-sleeve top, jeans, and a leather jacket she hadn’t worn in years.

“I brought the Ash Lumber report.” She passed it to him and stepped into the house as he shifted out of the way.

He closed the door behind her. “We don’t have to work on our date.”

“I don’t consider it work. I’m proud of it. I wanted to go over it earlier today.” She surveyed the entryway as the warmth of the house closed in around her. The smells from the kitchen made her mouth water. Maybe he could cook.

His hands landed on her shoulders. “Can I take your jacket?”

She shrugged out of her leather jacket, not missing the way he caressed her arms on the way down.

He opened a closet and hung it up.

“You have a coat closet?”

Blake closed the door. “Yes? Is that strange?”

“No. I don’t guess so. I don’t know if I’ve ever had someone take my jacket and hang it up. You did say when we first met that you were neat and tidy.”

Blake slipped his fingers into her hair at the base of her neck. “And you’re messy?”

“Horribly,” she whispered a second before his lips covered hers in a long, lingering kiss. God, it was easy to forget she didn’t have forever with this man. And dangerous.

He ended the kiss just as quickly. “C’mon. Let’s go into the kitchen. Dinner should be done soon.” He interlaced his fingers with hers, leading her down the hall and into the updated kitchen.
