4.1.1 Complications in the First Trimester of Pregnancy

Vaginal spotting or frank bleeding is a common experience during the first few weeks of pregnancy in approximately 25% of patients [14]. Often the bleeding is self-limited and temporary.

Nyberg et al. [15] suggested the following as the sonographic findings of threatened abortion and abnormal intrauterine pregnancy:1.Threatened abortion: a gestational sac of 5–6.5 weeks with or without embryo (Fig. 4.9)

2.Complete abortion: empty uterus or empty one gestational sac in twin pregnancy (Fig. 4.10)
