After the historic, though disastrous flight, Goebel became active in barnstorming and air show work, specializing in inverted flight, taking part in and winning many early air races, and becoming one of the best-known and respected flyers. It was at this time that he became associated with the famous 13 Black Cats, the pioneer professional acrobatic team working for the movies. He had performed in over a dozen movies, such as Three Miles Up (1927) starring Al Wilson, William Malan and Ethlyne Clair; Won in the Clouds (1928) starring Al Wilson, Helen Foster and Frank Rice; and The Air Patrol (1928) starring Al Wilson, Elsa Benham, and Jack Mower. He took part in dangerous plane-to-plane transfers and helped institute the system of standard fees for all 46 movie stunts.
