Chapter 5

Jules

I don't take Roy's words lightly. No man acts as baby crazy as him without being sincere. The thought of his child growing inside my womb has me glowing as I help the crew wrap up for the night, after a scene that was just shot in a house the production company rented for Real Kill. Daven notices.

“Jules, you look different,” he says, following me as I turn off lamps. “Although I can’t put my finger on how, it’s a good different. I wish I didn’t have to cut that scene you were supposed to be in. You would have looked great on film today.”

“Thanks,” I say, not looking at him.

I don’t want to encourage any flirting. Everything is done for tonight, so I don’t have to worry about putting him in a bad mood that could slow things down.

“Some of us are meeting in my hotel’s bar for drinks, at ten. I’d like you to come.”

Whoa. This is escalating quickly. “Sounds fun, but I’m not old enough to drink at a bar.”

“Oh, pity.” He touches my shoulder and I freeze. “Maybe you could just come to my room for a drink then.”

“Maybe you should step the hell away from her.”

Roy comes out of nowhere and doesn’t give Daven time to take the suggestion. He takes the man’s ringed fingers off me, then wraps one of his big, powerful arms around my shoulders.

Daven gives me a look I’ve never seen from him before. It radiates anger at me, before the full force of it is put on Roy. “I didn’t realize she was...”

“Taken?” Roy supplies. “She is.”

“Good to know,” Daven says with a curt nod. “I’ll keep my hands off then.”

The way he stomps off lets me know I’ve lost the opportunity to get a bit part in Real Kill, and I honestly couldn’t care less. I’d rather be Roy’s baby girl. I’ll never let anything come between us. Our love is very new, but it feels as strong as a bond that was formed years ago. One touch from him makes me feel like everything is right in the world, and like my own little corner of it is unbreakable with Roy in it.

“I appreciate you coming to my rescue,” I say, kissing his cheek, “but you probably shouldn't be that aggressive with him. Couldn’t he fire you?”

“I’d like to see him try,” Roy says, rolling his shoulders. “Lee and I have an air-tight contract—and speaking of Lee, he’s dying to meet you.”

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous, but I push those nerves down and tell him, “Then let's make it happen.”

We go to my place first so I can change into a dress and make sure I’m looking my best, and I’m anxious the whole time. I’m worried his cousin won’t accept me, and will assume I’m a gold digger, since I jumped into this relationship so fast, but when we leave and go to their hotel, Lee greets me in the first-floor restaurant with a warm smile.
