Chapter Five
Moet
Y’all are probably reading this and thinking I’m tripping and to be honest, I am. You ever get with a guy and you’re dating and things are going great. Then, you’re laying in bed and look up at them while all their attention is on the TV, and you’re thinking they’ll make an amazing father or husband? Well, I had that moment the minute I met Zyair Zane Whitfield. I could picture him being my other half and raising our children together, with the dog and white picket fence. I once felt this way about Ki. Now, I know I was tripping and he wasn’t meant to own a dog, more or less raise a child. I remember crying to Tammy about wanting to have his child, and even contemplated getting pregnant and raising my child alone.
With Zane things were different, and I wanted to be his wife and mother of his child. Shit, I was tired of being single and lonely Moet who worked all the time. I wanted to come home to a family of my own.
“Moet, take patient in room 312,” a nurse said, slapping the file chart in front of me. I should have stayed my ass home because I was working in the ER tonight, and this was the last place I wanted or needed to be.
I rolled my eyes, dragged the file along the desk and walked to the room. I had an hour until I was off of work and instead of letting me fade to the background so I could clock out, they wanted to force me to see other patients. I opened the chart as I neared the door, looked through charts and walked through the door. When I looked at the name and looked up, I wanted to walk out the room.
“Blakeisha? That’s so ghetto,” I said, forgetting I was supposed to be professional. As much as I hated this bitch, I loved my career ten times more. I adjusted my attitude and continued looking through her chart. “I apologize,” I mumbled.
“What brings you in, Ms. Brix?”
“Damn, I keep explaining this over and over. I’m four months pregnant and I’m spotting and I have a lot of pain,” she explained, and I couldn’t help the eye roll that occurred.
“Let me take your vital signs. When did this spotting start?” I continued to question, as I wrapped the blood pressure cuff around her arm.
“Last night; I tried to ignore it but it got worst, and when I woke up it was a little darker.”
“Hmm… okay, your vital signs are good. The doctor will be in with you shortly.”
“Umm, can you call the baby’s father?”
Although my back was turned, I was pretty sure that she saw the major screw face I had on. I adjusted my face and looked at my beautiful engagement ring. “Sure, write down his number and I’ll give him a call for you,” I replied, trying to be sweet.
“Moet, can you finish your notes and don’t forget to write the ones for the patient too,” my supervisor reminded me.
