“You die in my dreams, Gracie.”

22: iiEumin Nehsoya, Ni Eterniie

“We – we were taking pictures when all the lights in the city went off. After that, this explosion of red light appeared and took over the sky. The sky looked like it was bleeding! Then came the fireballs. I’ve never seen anything like it! I thought the world was going to end!”

Images and amateur footage recorded from all corners of the world swarmed my TV screen.

We sat in my living room, watching everything in unblinking silence. Korea, China, Italy, France, England, Australia, Egypt, Canada, and the United States—be it night or day, Genesis’s biblical blood sky didn’t discriminate when it came to presenting itself to the world. Apparently Seoul wasn’t the only city blessed with such a sight, and after capturing the attention of the entire world, the “Blood Sky” and “Apocalyptic Fireballs” was the breaking story on every news station.

“So how are we going to find a prophet?” I asked as the news segment continued, showing a reel of interviews with shocked onlookers. All were still standing in the crowded streets of Seoul, their expressions amazed and bewildered.

“We don’t,” Eclipse said simply.

My brows drew down. I turned on the couch to face him directly. If finding a prophet was important enough for Tony to place emphasis on it, then why wasn’t it on Eclipse’s list of priorities?

“Why not?”

“Prophets are virtually impossible to find because they do not differ from anyone else,” he explained over the noise of the TV. “Through the millennia, they’ve evolved so much that if they were to even have visions, which usually come in their dreams, they would never remember them. It would be a waste of time to even attempt to find a prophet.”

I blew out a labored breath because I knew he was right. We had so much to do in so little time that adding another bullet point to our already long list was inadvisable.

“What do we do then?”

He pondered the answer. “There’s a place we can go.”

“What’s there?”

“Broken prophets.”

Another onslaught of confusion met my face. “I thought you said prophets were virtually impossible to find?”

“True prophets are. Broken prophets, although difficult, are not impossible to find.”

“What are the differences between them?”

“True prophets are said to be those chosen by the Heavens. Every vision that comes to them is purportedly bestowed by the almighty Father himself.” His voice became ominous. “Broken prophets, on the other hand, are the black sheep of prophets. They are the ones who have colluded with evil, given up their souls, and became monsters. Broken prophets are just what their names suggest—they are flawed and broken. With every vision they get, it is not guaranteed that it is the whole truth or if they are even telling you the truth. Essentially, when seeking their guidance, the seeker has to tread very carefully.”

“Why didn’t you suggest this before?”

“Broken prophets aren’t known to be very savory characters, nor are they known to be very reliable. As I said, if one seeks them, then one has to be extremely careful.
