SILVER

Chris kneeled in front of me; his hands rested on my shoulders and our eyes met. He smelled like coffee and forest and open bogs and home, I missed home; thinking that I would never be able to return made me sad.

“Aren’t you concerned about my father’s orders?” I checked his face for signs, I had a way to read Chris.

“Yes, I am, but I am even more concerned about you. Do you think that I will allow you…”

But he stopped.

“I am asking you as your friend; let me be by your side, Silver.”

“Thank you, Chris. I know this is not easy for you to accept.”

“It’s my turn to ask what do you mean?”

“This, my relationship with the wolves. But I love them; they always protect me and treat me as a member of the pack.”

“I understand. Let’s raid Lamonte’s pantry, and see if we find something to eat?”

I hugged Chris and inhaled his scent again. He smelled like home, and my heart skipped a beat just by his proximity.

We walked out of the room and found my guys and Lamonte sitting at a table having more breakfast.

My stomach growled and River jumped up and offered me his seat. We demons don’t need that much food, but we like it.

“We had a bad start; I am glad that Silver has found friends in this realm.” Chris was the one I always knew. The demon who was in charge of smoothing over some of my father’s harsh decisions and outbursts.

I did appreciate that Chris made an effort to become friends, or at least talk to the wolves. Friends was a bit of a stretch, but still...

“Wolves play rough; a friend of Silver is a friend of the pack!” Jacks said and stood up, offering his hand to Chris.

They two shook arms and beat each other on the back, guys and their bonding rituals!

“Good, now that we are complete, we can all go and clean up the swamp. I can’t sleep with all those mutants on the loose!” Lamonte said with a wicked smile.

Just as he said that, Caspian stood in the door, watching us all.

“How the hell did you find me?” “I was very upset with him and his behavior. He was still very much in the doghouse.

The words were harsh because my heart shivered as I saw him.

Caspian was my mate, my body and my pussy recognized him, and I felt especially the second clenching in desire. My mating bond was acting up as if my bond with the pack attacked the one with Caspian. In my mind, the two had different colors, one was golden, with blue touches, and the other was dark red.
