Chapter 19

Griff

Music blaring from speakers all around Tori’s place made my head pound, but there wasn’t a chance in hell I was going to leave Adrien’s side. Not now. Not when there was so much for us to celebrate.

Hours after the sun rose over the Mississippi River, Javen called Adrien to tell her as far as he could tell, the spell worked. Kieran had come to sit with Mia until she woke, which from what Hilde had said, could take a day for the dark magic to fade from her system. So Kieran stayed with Mia, and dismissed Javen, who expeditiously came to report the good news.

We’d been partying ever since.

“You did it.” Tori squealed, pulling Adrien into a hug. “You got your sister back. Even I felt the spell working. You really are amazing.”

Adrien blushed with not only Tori’s blatant compliment, but the attention the two ladies had attracted by the other men in the bar. News of Adrien’s accomplishment had travelled through the quarter, and it seemed every monster in NOLA had come out to pay their respects.

Now Javen sat at my side, tension pouring off him. We might not be discussing it, but neither of us was comfortable with Adrien attracting the attention of any other man here tonight.

The two women went into the crowd and started dancing. I watched every shift of Adrien’s body. She was wearing a little black dress that hugged every curve like it was designed for her.

“She moves in a way I haven’t seen in years,” Javen muttered. “Like she’s sucking all the air out of the room, and my lungs are about to collapse. But I can’t tear my eyes away.”

Fuck. Javen sounded lovesick already. And as much as I wanted to argue over him staring at her that way, I couldn’t. Especially not if he understood what it was like to want Adrien, which clearly, he did. I felt it.

Javen Gael was craving Adrien, just like I was. The only difference between us was that I was going to have her in my arms at the end of tonight. Whether or not we were naked, and our bodies intertwined was up to Adrien, but I knew without a shadow of a doubt that she would be in my arms.

The song ended, and both women were smiling as they made their way back to our table.

“You should dance with us.” Adrien stared at me and Javen. Both of us.

My lips quirked up into a smile. “I’d do anything for you, but that does not extend to dancing in a crowd in the middle of a bar.”

Javen snorted beside me. “I’ll dance with you, beautiful.”

Adrien smiled mischievously at me, no doubt, feeling the effects of the alcohol she’d had to loosen up and forget the day’s events. When she held her hand out to Javen in invitation, I bit back a snarl. Thankfully, I didn’t need to rip his arms off, but only because Adrien’s phone started to ring.

She sighed, displeased, staring down at the screen.
