Within thirty minutes of our faceoff in the hallway, we were showered, changed, and in the car headed toward downtown Prague. I sat as far away from him as I could in the back seat while the driver hummed folk tunes off-key. After a few minutes of that, Lux closed the partition. I didn’t even want to clear my throat for fear that it would suck up all the oxygen between us and we’d implode. There was no need to look at him. He knew I was pissed. I could feel my anger compounding with every second that went by, mixed with this need and desire to be close to him. It was an emotional rollercoaster.

The hotel he’d booked for us was small and inconspicuous, nestled off a side street. I shot him a glare as the front desk clerk handed him the keys to our room. “You’re sleeping on the floor tonight.” I needed some space to process everything.

He nodded and followed me out of the elevator once we reached our floor. “They only had one room, Piper. It’s only for a couple of nights.”

I groaned upon seeing our very tiny room. There wasn’t even a desk or a closet. Just a queen-size bed and a small dresser. The barred window looked out into an alleyway with a clear view of an overflowing dumpster.

“It could be worse, I guess,” I mumbled to myself. “Okay, Mr. Know It All, now what?”

He leaned against the window frame. “We need food. I need alcohol. Then we get a good night’s sleep. We need to be on point at that party tomorrow night.”

“Great. But I’m not hungry,” I huffed.

Lux sighed in frustration. “Well, you can watch me eat then. I’m also going to need to see your phone.”

“Why do you need to see my phone? Haven’t you violated enough of my boundaries?” I gripped it tight in my palm.

“I need to destroy the sim card. We can’t take the chance that Harley or Kade could track us through it. I’ll have it backed up to Cassius’s hard drive so you don’t lose your contacts, but it has to be done. Only burner phones from now on.”

I glared at him for what seemed like an eternity as I attempted to come to terms with everything. This was kind of my fault so I couldn’t be too resistant. But ever since I’d met Lux, it was just one uncomfortable scenario after another. “Fine. Do it.”

He punched in a few codes, sent the info to Cassius, and then flushed the sim card down the toilet. “Would you like to get ready for dinner? There’s a bistro around the corner that’s quiet and discreet. They also have the best dumplings in Prague.”

“I told you, I’m not hungry.” I was seething but proceeded to gather my things, heading for the bathroom to freshen up.

This was going to be a long fucking night.

The look on his face when I came back out was priceless. I inched forward in a tight black leather dress and hot pink stilettos.
