Chapter Ten

“You are not going back to your home. It’s not safe,” Tobias said without preamble, sliding on a T-shirt over his chest angrily. Barefoot with jeans and a T-shirt, he shouldn’t have looked so sexy to her, but he did.

“I am a prominent vet. People are going to look for me. The cops will wonder where I am. Don’t you understand that? I can’t just disappear,” Sonja said, angry that they wouldn’t think about taking her home. She had patients she had to care for. As it was she’d missed her first two for the morning talking to Jezzie as the men slept away. Talking to the woman, she could almost believe that choosing Tobias and Hideki was the right idea. As long as they were sleeping and the memory of their possession the night before was still imprinted on her body. In the light of day, with them wide awake and back to their bickering and Neanderthal ways she wasn’t so sure. She wanted to stomp her foot she was so damn pissed, or slap one of them. She wasn’t saying she wanted to leave. All she had asked was for them to take her home so that she could take care of her appointments and that was it. She’d even told them they could stay with her all day while she worked and they could come back with her. But no. That wasn’t acceptable either. It didn’t matter what she said. After arguing since the moment she met them, they’d finally agreed on something. She found that together they were formidable.

“It’s not that difficult, Hideki. I already said you guys could stay with me. Why not just take me home for today? I just need a chance to finish out my schedule today and rearrange everything else. The Zealots wouldn’t attack me in broad daylight in front of so many human witnesses. They’d have the cops on them in no time.”

“We said no. That is final. We are not going back to your home. It’s not safe. The Zealots are going to be sniffing around, and we can’t risk them seeing you with us or wanting to question you again. They will know they wounded us, if they don’t think they already killed us. That could put you in danger. Just as you say, they may not want to do anything, but we also can’t shift in broad daylight. Humans cannot know we exist. We can’t out ourselves. If they decided to attack so brazenly, or even kidnap you we would be bound by a law from our Alpha only to protect you as much as we can in our human form,” Hideki returned.

“And that wouldn’t be enough?” Sonja questioned.

“No, not if they are using silver bullets. They may keep them in the weapon just in case. We may be able to run faster, see better, and are stronger than typical humans, but we are strongest when shifted. We’d be no match for their firepower. Just having us there wouldn’t be enough,” Tobias added.
