Chapter Eleven

Amy

We spent the next two weeks talking whenever we had a free moment. Levi wasn’t able to return home the first week, as he’d planned. The Miami mall was a complete disaster, and his company had been hired officially for consulting purposes.

Since Hayden was on her honeymoon, I spent a lot of time at the office. Demi and I split up the call times, which made working overtime a little easier to handle, but we were definitely feeling Hayden’s absence.

Demi mentioned meeting for lunch on Saturday, but I politely declined. I hadn’t told her how things with Levi had progressed, so I didn’t want to reveal that my secret lover was returning later that evening.

“If you change your mind or if Levi misses his flight, give me a call.”

I looked up from my computer and grinned. “Somebody’s been talking to Mac.”

“Somebody forgot to mention she was getting along rather well with her brother-in-law’s brother.” She shrugged her shoulders. “And Mac is a dream.”

“Let’s hope not,” I said, giggling.

“He is…” she sang, completely unaware of what I’d first implied.

“We’re both guilty of keeping our secrets,” I said, thrilled for Demi. She and Mac looked like a great pair and shared mutual interests.

“Want me to lock you in?” Demi asked, flashing a handful of keys.

“No. I’ll go ahead and finish here, and head home in a few. See you Monday.”

She waved farewell, and a few minutes later, I heard her speed away on her motorcycle. I silently wished I had enough guts to ride away on two wheels. I’d have more luck crossing a busy intersection in the middle of rush hour.

The front bell jingled, and I looked up in time to see a massive form enter. I couldn’t make out the man behind the roses, but if two dozen roses were any indication, my intruder in denim jeans and a black jacket was none other than… “Levi!”

I leapt to my feet, and practically jumped into his arms. Fortunately, he set aside the flowers when he saw how quickly I’d left my post behind the desk.

“Hey gorgeous,” he said, throwing his arms around my waist, and dragging me against his body. “I missed you.”

“Ditto,” I crooned, standing on my toes so I could enjoy a proper kiss.

As if he remembered our whereabouts around the same time that I did, he backed away with a sheepish look. “What time do you lock up?” His smile didn’t change, and that solid erection didn’t diminish. I bit my lip, and made a show out of noticing.

“Keep it up and I’ll take us in the back, and pick up where we left off on Valentine’s Day.”

“You probably wouldn’t want to do that here.”

“Yes, I would. Give me a reason you wouldn’t.” He kicked the front door closed, and turned the lock. “Forget the reason. It’s a date. Now.”

As much as I wanted to go with it, and let Levi have his way while giving me mine, I couldn’t. A minute earlier, I might have gotten down and dirty with him, but now it wasn’t possible.
